When Should You Create Your Baby Registry?
Timeline for building your registry and sharing it.
Too early and you'll change your mind on everything. Too late and guests are asking what you need. Here's the ideal timeline.
When to Start: 16–20 Weeks
The second trimester sweet spot. You've:
- Had the anatomy scan (you might know the sex)
- Done initial research on baby gear
- Felt real about the pregnancy
- Have 4–6 months to refine your choices
When to Share: 20–24 Weeks
Once your registry is 70% complete, share it. People will start asking early, and it's better to have something ready. You can always add items later.
Final Updates: 26–28 Weeks
Two weeks before your shower, do a final review:
- Remove items you've changed your mind on
- Add items you forgot
- Check prices (they fluctuate)
- Ensure a range of price points ($20–$200)
What If I'm Late?
If you're past 28 weeks and haven't registered, don't panic:
- Use a pre-made checklist (like In9Months's)
- Add 30–50 essential items quickly
- Ask experienced parent friends for their must-haves
- Better to have a simple registry than none at all
Registry tip: Create your registry early, but don't feel pressured to share it until you're ready. Most platforms let you build privately.
